From the Executive Director’s Desk
The Center is privileged to partner with great organizations across the world. These partnerships allow us to extend our reach and establish ourselves as a provider of innovative events and programs even before the building is complete. In June the Center once again joined with HBO to celebrate a powerful new documentary called For Neda. The film tells the story of a young woman who was gunned down in the 2009 election protests in Iran. We had a full house and great discussion afterwards with members of the film-making team.
Another exciting partnership currently underway is bringing the freedom's SISTERS exhibit to Atlanta. The freedom's SISTERS collection is a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition created by the Cincinnati Museum Center. It celebrates the lives of twenty African-American women who worked for equal rights for all. It will be at The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum beginning July 24. I encourage you to attend and take a young person with you to help ensure that these womens' examples go on to inspire the next generation of rights advocates.
Our July film screenings called Films That Matter kicks off with Invictus on July 8th in Woodruff Park in Downtown Atlanta. You can read about why each of the four films was selected on my blog. Read on for additional details about the event.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
