Atlanta Remembers Dr. King

Jan. 21, 2008 marks the 22nd anniversary of the national holiday in Rev. King’s honor, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change and others will commemorate the late civil rights icon during King Week Celebration (Jan. 14-21).

The theme this year is “Keeping the Dream Alive Remembering the Past; Forging Towards the Future,” with an event centered on Rev. King’s teachings and principles occurring each day. Additional information about the weeklong celebration can be found at http://www.mlkmarchaaar.org/.

“A Song for Coretta” – a moving and unexpectedly funny play about five women waiting to see Coretta Scott King lay in state – premieres at 7 Stages on Jan. 17. The play will run through Feb. 17. For more information, please visit www.7stages.org.

Marking its 16th year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, featuring the Morehouse College Glee Club, will also pay tribute on Jan. 17. The King Celebration begins at 8 p.m. and takes place at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College campus. To purchase tickets, please visit www.atlantasymphony.org.
